Welcome to WHS!

Think in pictures- Be convinced and convincing- Make sense- Ask WHY- Enjoy Geometry!

Wednesday August 27th- Here's an electronic copy of the course overview and the first HW sheet for your reference.
(Remember, adjustments in assignments may be made and announced in class.)

Here are the Learning Goals to help you prepare for the first quiz

Thursday Sept. 11- Quiz on 1.1-1.4, algebra review and class work.

-Have FUN with GEOMETRY--- turn lines into curves with LINE DESIGNS :)
See the link below for a reference on how to create line designs.
Obviously, there are other references on the internet too that might give you ideas on a design that's "your style." Part of your homework this week is to create a line design. You will not be graded on how elaborate your design is, this is just for fun and inspiration- yours can be as basic or complex as you want and as you have time for. Just use an 8.5x11in blank sheet of computer paper and add at least some color to it. And then add some geometry word(s) to live by to the design. For example, "Ask Why!" You'll be able to keep these to cover your notebook or your wall at home or you can display yours on my classroom wall. (Due )

MORE SNOW!!!!!!!
So, the test days are pushed back again!
It's nice to have a break, but this is too much- I can't wait to get back into Geometry with you!!! Make sure you are practicing your reasoning skills, your convincing argument skills, generating questions and ideas, testing conjectures, and looking for the geometry and truths around you even when we are not in class!
AND MORE SNOW!!!! This is silly!!
Test days pushed back again. Can't wait to celebrate 4th of July with you all in school ;)

Homework Friday March 13th-
1. Look up the "golden ratio" (phi). Once you figure out what it is, find and bring in 3-4 interesting facts about it. Be ready to share your findings with the class.
2. Having just passed Black History Month and with St. Patrick's day next week- I got thinking it would be a good time to...
Search for a famous, or at least accomplished, mathematician or scientist that has a similar ethnicity as you. Read about some of her/his work and write a paragraph or two about the person and her math/science work. Include why the work was so important, impressive and/or interesting and mention the impact of the work. Be ready to share your findings with your group and the class.
3. Try this online game/exercise- it has many levels. Do as much or as little as you have time for after the above HW. I'll give you homework time to work on this another day too! You will have to construct and "measure" with properties and a few basic tools instead of tools like rulers and protractors. Hope you think it's fun!

March 2015- Below is your Ch. 8 HW Assignment sheet and you were given a hard copy in class.

Monday March 23rd- Quiz on class work and home work and sections 8.1-8.4 in your textbook. Learning goals will be given in class and posted below.

Thursday April 2nd- See the document below for my solutions to some of the review work and ch. 8 work that we have been doing.

Wednesday April 8th Cumulative Test on Chapters 4, 5, 6 and 8 and class work. (Only the textbook sections that we covered in those chapters.) The learning goals below show all the goals from the year so far. The test will be on Ch. 4-6 and 8, but as you know, geometry builds, so I figured having one document with all the goals might help you identify any topics you might need to review. On the test there is a moderate emphasis on Ch. 6 and 8.

Tuesday May 12th Test on Chapter 9 and Operating with Radicals- See learning goals that were given in class to guide your study, they are also posted below in case you lost your hard copy.

Ch. 10 HW assignment sheet- See HW sheet below and you were also given a hard copy in class. NOTE CHANGE- We are not going to cover sections 10.5 and 10.6- we may work through proofs of some of those truths to review for the final exam, but the theorems in those sections will not be covered on the final exam. So you are not responsible for HW 98 and 99, you will be asked to do HW 100.

Here's a pdf. of the Postulate and Theorems packet in case you lost yours. It has not been updated with the small additions that we made in class this year, but has almost everything. Remember, you will not be able to use this on the exam, so it would be a good idea to start reviewing it if you feel like you are relying on it too much on HW and quiz and tests!

Thursday May 21th- Ch. 10 (10.1-10.4) and class work Quiz- See the learning goals below and note that only some are covered on the quiz. Don't forget to bring your packets and calculators to the quiz!

NOTE CHANGE- We are not going to cover sections 10.5 and 10.6- we may work through proofs of some of those truths to review for the final exam, but the theorems in those sections will not be covered on the final exam. So you are not responsible for HW 98 and 99, you will be asked to do HW 100 in a few days.

Thursday May 21st- HW: Review section 11.4 on circumference and arc length (not measure)- Do Pg. 686-688 #15-21 odd, #27-30, 33, 34, 47.

Wednesday June 3rd. (Note change) Some of Ch. 10 and some of Ch. 11 and class work TEST. Use the learning goals below to guide your study and don't forget to review your quiz.

Final Exam Review
Here are the learning goals, written more specifically than usual, and some notes about the final exam. You will see you will not be tested on all topics that we have covered this year on the exam.

Here is the reference sheet that you will be able to use on the exam.

(I gave you a hard copy of this one in class Friday 6-5-15)
